Saying goodbye is always hard. Whether it’s goodbye for a day, a week, a year or forever. Goodbyes tug at the heart. Last week, with a sadness deep in my soul, I had to say a forever-goodbye. My father-in-law, Ed, passed away last Friday. He was one of the good guys. A truly great man. A man who lived his life devoted to helping and protecting the voiceless…our children. A man who lived his life devoted to his family. A man who lived his life to the fullest. Each day. Each moment.
He was a man I am grateful I had the honor and pleasure of calling my Dad (we both decided to ditch the ‘in-law’ thing a long time ago). You see, we truly liked each other. I worked for him for 17 years and lived nextdoor for almost 4. He was an amazing father and an incredible grandfather to his 5 grandchildren who fondly referred to him as Dop. They knew of his big laugh, mischievous smile, and his unconditional love of being their grandfather. He was the master of the game. Any game. He could engage 5 grandchildren spanning 6 years any time, any where. Word games. Scavenger hunts. Drawing contests. Treasure hunts. Football in the pool. Basketball on the mini-hoop. He was a fighter who never gave up. He was a man I loved, respected and will miss.
Goodbye, Dop. Love you.
Wonderful blog – love you.
