What’s your favorite part of a book? The beginning when everything is new and fresh. You turn each page with eager anticipation, trying to unravel the next clue. Or are you partial to the middle of the book? Where you’re comfortable; the characters are old friends and the journey’s underway. Or do you love the last twenty pages? The culmination of the adventure, the crescendo. All is revealed. The story is over.
My favorite is the middle. Hands-down. The introductions are behind me, the characters are familar, and I’m in the thick of the adventure. For me, starting a book can be a hurdle. I’m hooked or lost in the first paragraph. Finishing a book is a blend of utmost satisfaction and disappointment. Satisfaction for the good read and disappointment that it’s over.
