It’s good to venture out of the comfort of your favorite chair, activity, routine, school, and delve into the unknown world of uncomfortability. Journeying outside your box is a good thing. Trust me. It can be empowering. Inspiring.
I won’t lie however, the beginning is tough. You walk into a room where you know no one, your heart races and your hands sweat. You hope you don’t need to talk to anyone because your throat is suddenly arid and your voice is stuck. You try to remember why you’re doing this. But, then a life raft is tossed your way. A stranger walks up and befriends you. You talk about nothing. Really, you are both nervous and initially the conversation may be about nothing at all…the weather, the Red Sox, your parents, your homework, this lame activity. But after a few minutes, there’s a connection. Something that bonds. The beginning of a friendship, maybe, or at least, the end of the massive uncomfortability. You’ve gone outside your comfort zone and survived. You learned how to navigate the waters outside your box.
Creating this website, sharing my stories and my at-times-bumpy-road to publication has all been a journey outside my comfort zone. When was the last time you stepped outside your box? How’d it go?
