What happens in those moments just before you fall asleep? You’re awake one moment and the next thing you know, the sun’s coming in the window and the clock reads 6:00 a.m. How long was it before you drifted off? Seconds, minutes? What happens in those nuggets of time? Any guesses?
Well, the book I’m writing begins in those moments. The between. Not awake, but not yet asleep. A boy learns what can and does happen in the between.
I’ll have much time to work on this story and revise my others this weekend. Vermont College here I come! I’m heading to VC for a writers’ retreat. A totally out of the box experience for me. I’m pshyched to meet very cool people who love to write for kids as much as I do.
And, while I’m there, I’ll think about those moments just before I nod off. Wondering if anyone is lurking in the between.
