Confession.  My favorite, bubble-making, chewy gem is Bazooka Joe gum.  Awesome jazzy flavor burst (at least for the first 3 minutes). Perfectly pink.  Bubbles within bubbles potential.  Comic.  And, the all important fortune.  I am a fan and have been since about the age of 13 (it was a bit tricky during the braces years).  So…when I began my writing adventure, I, of course, had my steady supply of Bazooka Joe.  A tub, actually.

One day while writing, I unwrapped the sugary delight, popped it in my mouth, chewed to soften and began the bubble-making.  I unfolded my fortune, which read, “You have the ability to become outstanding in literature.” Now I am a Bazooka gum fan and have read many fortunes over the years, but never had I nor have I since received a fortune such as that.

So what do you do when inspiration taps you on the shoulder? You tack it to the bulletin board right next to your desk.  There it has remained, staring at me through every draft, revision, rejection and celebration.  It reminds me of the possible and the unlikely.  It reminds me that inspiration can come from the most improbable source.  It reminds me to be hopeful and have faith.

So…pop a piece of Bazooka Joe in your mouth, and while you’re working on the perfect bubble, see what inspires you!
