Dabble in the world of the funny words. You will smile as you recite these silly words and laugh when you realize they are fimly planted in the English language. Try it… Repeat after me…Not yet…Okay, now…thingamabob, hullabaloo, thingamajig. These funny words are not alone. Keeping them company are: brouhahah, poppycock, hornswoggle, lollygag, rapscallion, and not to be left behind, smorgasbord! What I love about these rythmic wonders is they are proof that it, by that I mean the English language, does not take itself too seriously. Often there is no better way to describe an object you have no idea how to identify, then by simply saying, “I saw the coolest thingamajig yesterday.” Are there other funky words you can think of that have been incorporated into our every day usage?
Book note of the day: Just finished The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman and it was deserving of all its praise. An incredibly unique story about a boy, his ghosts, his courage and his heart. Next stop, Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson. It’s off to a wonderful beginning. I’ll keep you posted.
